NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has earned their first verbal commitment for the class of 2024 from in-state swimmer Gabi Reed of Mount Pleasant, S.C.

Reed swims year-round with the South Carolina Swim Club and most recently competed at the Holiday Classic where her highest finish was an eighth-place showing in the 100 fly. She capped off her summer long course season by racing three events at Cary Futures after earning the bronze medal in the 100m fly at the South Carolina LCM Championships. Also competing for Wando High School, Reed is a six-time South Carolina 5A State Championship finalist. She was the 200 free runner-up and took fourth in the 100 fly as a junior after placing fifth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 back during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to continue my love for swimming at the University of South Carolina. It has always been a dream of mine to attend and swim for a Division 1 school. To have the opportunity to live it out at USC and experience the great program that Coach Moody and the coaching staff has developed that is the icing on the cake. Along with being able to get my degree at this amazing university so close to home is something my little girl self would never believe. I can’t thank my coaches and parents enough for helping me make my dream a reality. They have been a great support system through out the whole process. Time to be a Gamecock!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 53.16
  • 200 free – 1:51.53
  • 100 back – 57.63
  • 100 fly – 56.95
  • 200 IM – 2:10.81

When she suits up for the Gamecocks at the start of the 2020-21 season, Reed will join training groups that’ll include Ayris AkbayHallie KinseyMariana Kraus and Emma Otten. Although she’s not quite in scoring range at the SEC Championships just yet, she still has 1.5 years of club swimming to go before arriving in Columbia.
