Carli Cronk Helps Notre Dame Edges ACC Rival Miami

Carli Cronk picked up a pair of wins as Notre Dame on Saturday diverted its winter training for an ACC showdown with the University of Miami in a 162.5-137.5 win.

Cronk was vital to the victory. She went 1:47.99 to win the 200 free. She and teammate Lainey Mullins were within two tenths of each other, Mullins winning the 500 free in 4:51.57. Cronk came back to win the 200 individual medley in 2:02.37 in a 1-2-3 with teammates Emily Kitayama and Julieta Tracy to seal a tight victory.

Notre Dame recovered from a DQ of it’s a 200 medley relay with a win in the 400 free relay. Hollie Widdows, Kate Simon, Becky Rentz and Emily Hamill went 3:20.17.

Widdows won the 50 free with a time of 23.18 with Simon third. Simon was second to Rentz (50.60) in the 100 free and third in the 200 free. Tracy won the 200 breast and was third in the 100 breast, won by Gigi Baldacci. Rentz was second in the 100 fly.

Miami got an expected boost in diving. Margo O’Meara swept both 1-meter and 3-meter, with Emma Gullstrand second both times. But the Hurricanes also impressed in the pool.

Ashlyn Massey went the butterfly events, going 1:57.93 to win the 200 and 53.33 in the 100 fly. She also swam on the winning 200 medley relay.

Sophie Lenze won the 1,000 free and finished second in the 200 breast. Leah Treglia, who led off the winning 200 medley relay, went 54.61 to edge Hamill in the 100 back. Miami went 1-2 in the 200 back, with Sara Sensenbrenner winning in 1:58.18 ahead of Phoebe Mayo.
