NEW COMMIT: Western Springs, Ill. native Katie Mitchell has given a verbal pledge to the University of Massachusetts – Amherst for the fall of 2019.

Mitchell swims year-round with the Academy Bullets Swim Club and concluded her long course season as a three-time finalist with a pair of best times at the Illinois LCM Senior Championships. She recorded a trio of lifetime bests at NCSAs in March and most recently had a successful showing at the Western Springs Silver Championships. Mitchell competed in the 100 fly at the Illinois State Championships as a junior for Lyons Township North High School after placing third in the event at IHSA Sectionals a week prior.

She told Swimming World:

“Super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the University of Massachusetts!  Big thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way and I can’t wait to continue my athletic and academic pursuits at such an amazing school!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 55.42
  • 200 fly – 2:06.11
  • 200 IM – 2:07.61

When she suits up for the Minutemen at the start of the 2019-20 season, Mitchell will join a fly training group that includes Stephanie Judge and Alyvia Petrozza. Her best 100 fly time would’ve scored in the A-final of the 2018 A-10 Championships while her 200 fly would’ve placed in the B-final.

Mitchell will join Bella Snyder and Olivia Mozoki as members of the UMass Amherst class of 2023.
