Butler University Swim Team Hosts Online Petition
INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, February 14. RECENTLY, the Butler University men's swimming team posted an online petition to help save the team from cuts announced last month that will take effect on June 1. Click here to join the cause and help save the team.
The site also contains a statement explaining how unnecessary the cuts are in the grand scheme of Butler University's athletics program:
According to Athletic Director Barry Collier, the decision to discontinue swimming was made for purely financial reasons. Upon further review of the actual cost of the men's swimming team, the budget of $11,220 accounts for less than one-tenth of one percent of the University's total $9.6 million athletic expenditure for a given year. The purpose of this petition is to demonstrate to the administration of Butler University that the elimination of the men's team is an enormous mistake. In a sport like swimming, cutting the men's squad does not just eliminate a team, it cuts in half a family in terms of training, competition, and support.
