NEW COMMIT: Arizona State has earned a verbal commitment from Jacksonville, Fla. native Adair Sand who will join the Sun Devils in the fall of 2020.

Sand swims year-round with the Bolles School Sharks and is a four-time Winter Juniors qualifier with a U.S. Open cut in the 200m back. She raced three events at Junior Nationals this summer and finaled in four events at Gainesville Sectionals. She notched a personal best in the 400 IM at Juniors East last winter and won a pair of events at Florida Seniors in February.

While competing for Bolles School, Sand is a four-time Florida 1A State Championship finalist. She placed seventh in both the 100 back and 200 IM as a sophomore after winning both races at the Region 1 meet a week prior. She finished eighth and 11th, respectively, in those events during her inaugural high school season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona State! I really felt at home with the team atmosphere, along with the amazing coaching staff was something I could not pass up. I am honored to be joining the Sun Devil family. Forks Up!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 56.13
  • 200 back – 1:59.25
  • 400 IM – 4:20.20
  • 200 free – 1:49.57

When she suits up for the Sun Devils as a member of the class of 2024, Sand will join a backstroke group that includes Camryn Curry and an IM squad led by Nora Deleske. Even with just under two years of club swimming still to go before arriving in Tempe, she would’ve scored in the C-final of both backstroke events as well as the 400 IM at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships. Arizona State finished third overall in the team standings at last season’s conference meet.
