Boeckman, Plage Cruise to Victory to Begin Ithaca Speedo Sectionals

Elizabeth Boeckman and James Plage each won the opening distance events on night one of the 2018 Speedo Sectionals Championship Series in Ithaca, NY.

Chelsea Piers’ Boeckman began the meet with a win in the women’s 1000 free, dropping nearly six seconds from her entry time to win in 9:54.23.
Her teammate Alexandra Truwit finished second in 9:58.87 as the only other swimmer under the ten-minute mark. Blue Devil’s Tylor Mathieu dropped over 11 seconds to finish third in 10:04.39.
Weston’s Kristin Cornish (10:04.59), Seacoast’s Emma Whall (10:11.67), Victor’s Taryn Wisner (10:14.54), Morris County’s Grace Miller (10:18.65) and Long Island’s Mary McKenna (10:19.52) rounded out the top eight.
Fifteen-year-old Plage of Aquabears finished first in the men’s 1650 free with a time of 15:30.65 after dropped seven seconds from his previous personal best.
Victor’s Kai Wisner grabbed the silver medal in 15:32.52 and Purple Valley’s Cole Kuster earned the bronze in 15:35.05.
Charter Oak’s Adam Zapatka (15:40.95), SoCo’s Alfred Hansen (15:47.43), Ridgefield’s Connor Hunt (15:47.58), X-Cel’s Michael Krigeris (15:51.71) and Blue Devil’s Mcallistar Milne (15:56.95) completed the top eight.
Prelims for the first full day of competition will begin tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. EST.
