WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, February 27. DURING the second night of swimming at the Big Ten Men's Championships held at Purdue, Michigan's Tyler Clary put an exclamation point on what has been an outstanding meet for the Wolverines.
Clary dropped an NCAA record time of 3:38.03 in the men's 400-yard IM, winning by more than four seconds over teammate Andre Schultz's 3:42.93.
The performance wiped out Ryan Lochte's 2006 standard of 3:38.15 set for Florida at the NCAA Championships.
Clary still has some work to do by NCAAs this year to claim the American standard as Michael Phelps holds the record with a 3:36.26 set in Austin in 2006.
