Bentley vs. Norwich
NORTHFIELD, Vermont, February 7. SENIORS James Cote (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip HS) and Nick Markert (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton HS), both of whom were competing in their final career dual meet, each won two individual events as Bentley University surpassed Norwich University, 144-121, in men's college swimming at the Norwich pool Saturday afternoon.
Cote finished first in both the 200 yard butterfly (2:18.01) and the 100 individual medley (59.91) while Markert's victories came in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.67) and the 200 breast (2:26.80).
Markert also anchored Bentley's meet-opening 200 medley relay team that posted a winning time of 1:41.68, following juniors Willie Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley HS) and Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and sophomore Egen Ouellette (West Hartford, Conn./Conard HS) into the pool.
Bentley's other individual winners were Laden in the 200 freestyle (1:52.20), freshman Jake Capistran (Amherst/Williston Northampton School) in the one-meter diving (127.30), Connolly in the 200 backstroke (2:02.79) and Ouellette in the 100 fly (56.33).
Bentley finishes its dual schedule at 8-4 and will return to action Feb. 27 when the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association championships get underway at Roger Williams College.
