Belgium Nationals: Men’s 800 Free Relay National Record Falls
MOLENBEEK, Belgium, May 4. THE final session of action at the Belgium National Championships held in Molenbeek came to a close today. The team of Olivier Landauer, Pierre Romanini, Pholie Systermans and Yoris Grandjean crushed the Belgium record in the men's 800 free relay with a time of 7:35.08. That time eclipsed the 7:41.39 that had previously stood as the standard.
Fanny Lecluyse began the final day of swimming with a victory in the women's 400 IM with a time of 5:01.81. Pierre-Antoine Meunier followed with a winning time of 1:05.35 in the men's 100 breast.
Griet Buelens won another national title when she hit the wall in 8:57.06 in the women's 800 free, while Bruno Claeys touched the pad in 2:05.94 to win the men's 200 back.
Jolien Sysmans just missed her national record of 25.83 in the women's 50 free with a time of 25.83, while Francois Heersbrandt touched out Gino Stevenheydens, 24.81 to 24.94, in the men's 50 fly.
Kimberly Buys followed her double from yesterday with a triumph in the women's 100 fly today when she hit in 1:00.88, while Stef Verachten snatched the men's 400 free title in 3:53.96, off his national record of 3:52.62.
The quartet of Emily Vavourakis, Buys, Kim Janssens and Kim Caluwaerts wound up with the women's 400 free relay title in 3:52.99.
