Austrian Long Course Nationals: Mirna Jukic Sets European Record
WIEN, Austria, February 28. DURING the third night of finals, Mirna Jukic clocked a European record in the women's 200 breast over long course.
Jukic ripped off a time of 2:22.91 to clear the continental record of 2:23.02 set by Norway's Sara Nordenstam at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The effort also beat Jukic's Austrian record of 2:23.24 also set in Beijing. Jukic still has a bit to go before she challenges Rebecca Soni's world record of 2:20.22. Jukic also won the women's 100 back in 1:04.91, just missing the national record of 1:04.71 set by Nina Dittrich last June.
In national record news, Martin Spitzer clocked a swift 24.11 to beat his men's 50 fly national record of 24.30 set during prelims. That swim cleared his previous record of 24.66 set last July.
In other action, Fabienne Nadarajah posted a time of 26.75 to win the women's 50 fly. Jordis Steinegger picked up the women's 200 free in 1:59.39, while David Brandl won the men's 200 free in 1:48.50. Hunor Mate walked away with the men's 200 breast title in 2:14.14. Additionally, Christian Zluga took the men's 100 back in 57.49, while Birgit Koschischek won the women's 200 fly in 2:13.79. Dinko Jukic also won the men's 200 fly in 1:56.83.
