Australian Olympian Lisa Curry-Kenny To Have Heart Surgery
SYDNEY, Australia, April 2. ACCORDING to a report in the Herald Sun, three-time Australian Olympian Lisa Curry-Kenny, 45, will undergo heart surgery to repair "a condition known as myocarditis."
Curry-Kenny, who represented Australia at the 1980 Moscow, 1984 Los Angeles and 1992 Barcelona Games, completed her career with 30 international medals across a variety of competitions. She finished with 15 gold, seven silver and eight bronze medals.
"This has been a very big challenge for me and for my family and I'm dealing with this as I have always approached big challenges, one step at a time," Curry-Kenny said in the statement posted by the Herald Sun. "Right now I'm just trying to walk my talk and stay positive. This is something I never thought would happen to me. The risk of cardiac arrest is very small but unpredictable and I'm not prepared to jeopardize my life for that small risk."
