NEW COMMIT: Manvel, Texas native Jack Armstrong has announced his verbal commitment to the Auburn Tigers beginning in the fall of 2019.

Armstrong does his club swimming with Houston Bridge Bats where he has his Nationals cut in both the 50 and 100 free. He competed at Nationals and Junior Nationals this past summer and recorded two lifetime bests at the Austin Speedo Sectionals in July. At Speedo Juniors West in December, he posted an eighth-place showing in the 50 free (20.63).

Also representing Manvel High School, Armstrong is a two-time Texas 5A state champion. As a junior, he won the 50 free (20.41) and 100 free (44.74) after breaking the 5A record during prelims with a time of 44.57. He was the runner-up in the 50 free (21.11) and placed seventh in the 100 free (46.52) during his sophomore season. He also has lettered in water polo and cross country while at Manvel.

He told Swimming World:

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to further my education and swimming career at Auburn University.  I’m very excited about the new coaching staff Coach Gary Taylor has assembled and I can’t wait to be a part of such a great program. War Eagle!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.31
  • 100 free – 44.52
  • 200 free – 1:41.12
  • 100 fly – 50.20

Armstrong will provide the Tigers with more sprint freestyle depth when he arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season. He will have one season to train with top returning sprinter Santiago Grassi and three seasons with current freshman Stevos Baczek.
