Jack Armstrong Breaks 100 Free Record At Texas 5A State Prelims

Manvell High School’s Jack Armstrong’s 100 free was the highlight of Texas 5A prelims after he broke the 5A record set in 2017. He stopped the clock in 44.57, eclipsing the old mark by two hundredths of a second. He will also be tomorrow’s top seed in the 50 free after posting a 20.31.

The boys’ 200 free will be a close race tomorrow. Corby Furrer powered his way to the top seed in 1:40.51, followed closely by Alexander Ellison (1:40.53) and Will Barton (1:40.63). Furrer will also be the top seed in the 500 free with a time of 4:33.38.

Peter Simmons will look to win two 5A titles after winning prelims in both the boy’s 100 fly (49.62) and 100 back (49.68). David Hallaron finished first this morning in the boy’s 200 IM (1:51.38) and will try to improve his time tomorrow.

Ana Herceg leads the way in the girl’s 200 free with a time of 1:49.37. Raime Jones was the only other girl under the 1:50 barrier, posting a time of 1:49.79. Jones is also the top qualifier in the 500 free in 4:59.18.

Jesse Stovall will be the top seed in both the girl’s 50 free (23.73) and 100 free (52.49). Lindsay Looney will also be in the middle lane in two events tomorrow after winning the girl’s 200 IM (2:02.22) and 100 fly (55.11).

On the 1-meter board, Payton Props is the girl’s top seed after posting a score of 307.50. Hunter Jaynes scored 363.65 points to be the boy’s top seed for tomorrow’s final.
