Auburn Lands Another Verbal Commitment From US Open Qualifier Michelle Kaner

NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has received a new verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Michelle Kaner of Des Plaines, Illinois.

She will join Aislyn Barnett and Morgan Carteaux as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond humbled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Auburn University! ??A huge thank you to my family, coaches, friends and teammates for supporting me throughout this process and getting me to this point. WAR EAGLE!! ? ? #WDE”

A talented freestyler and backstroker, Kraner does her club swimming with Glenbrook Aquatics and most recently raced the 200m back at Junior Nationals after taking 11th in that event in 2021. She also won the 200 back at Illinois Seniors in March.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.22
  • 100 free – 52.23
  • 200 free – 1:52.79
  • 50 back – 26.76r
  • 100 back – 54.42
  • 200 back – 1:56.94

A rising senior at Maine West High School, Kaner placed fourth in the 100 back at the 2021 Illinois State Championships, also taking sixth in that event at the state meet in 2019. Her 2020 state championships was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Kaner would’ve placed in the C-final of the 200 back at the 2022 SEC Championships. She also would’ve ranked No. 3 in the 200 back and No. 4 in the 100 back on the Tigers’ lineup last season.
