Arizona Wildcats Get 2027 Verbal Commitment From Alexandra Sartie Barrutia
NEW COMMIT: The University of Arizona has scored a new verbal commitment for Fall 2027 from Tijuana, Mexico native Alexandra Sartie Barrutia. She is a Junior National qualifier who excels in mid-distance freestyle and backstroke.
Barrutia will join Dylon Flikkema in Tucson as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2031.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m excited to announce my commitment to the University of Arizona! I want to thank my family, my coach and everyone that has been involved in my swimming life for helping make this opportunity possible. This is an important milestone in my life and I’m very excited to take the next steps. Bear Down!!”
Barrutia trains year-round with Club Acuatico DE Alto Nivel in Mexico. She most recently won the 50m free and 100m free at the Arena Élite Championships in April while also taking second in the 200m free. She also competes for Sea to Desert Swim Association in California. Last summer, she finaled in two events at Sacramento Futures.
Her best times include:
- 100 free – 50.57
- 200 free – 1:48.54
- 500 free – 4:51.20
- 100 back – 56.56
- 200 back – 2:01.50
Barrutia is a great pickup for Arizona. Her best time in the 500 free would’ve ranked fourth on the Wildcats’ lineup last year while her best 200 free time would’ve ranked sixth.
The Wildcats finished second at the 2026 Big 12 Conference Championships.
