NEW COMMIT: Arizona State University has picked up a new addition for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Futures qualifier Emma Gatzke of New Berlin, Wisc.

She will join Ange Harris and Ana Izabella Adame in Tempe as a member of the Sun Devils’ class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“Super excited to be announcing my verbal commitment to continue to swim and study at Arizona State University! Thank you to my coaches, friends, and parents for supporting me and getting me to this point! #forksup”

A talented freestyler and backstroker, Gatzke trains year-round with Elmbrook Swim Club and picked up a pair of best times at a time trial in August after placing 12th in the 200 back at the Wisconsin 13&O State Championships. She also led-off her team’s medley relays at Juniors West in December.

In summer 2019, she posted three top-10 finishes at Wisconsin LCM 13&O Championships before going on to race three events at NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 52.62
  • 200 free – 1:52.48
  • 50 back – 26.84
  • 100 back – 55.98
  • 200 back – 2:01.68

Also competing for Waukesha South/Mukwonago Co-op, Gatzke is a six-time individual Wisconsin State Championship finalist. She placed fifth in the 200 free and ninth in the 100 back as a junior while taking sixth in the 200 free and 14th in the 100 free during her sophomore season at the DI meet.

While competing at the WIAA DII State Championships in her rookie campaign, Gatzke earned bronze in the 200 free and placed fourth in the 100 free.

The Sun Devils, who are currently redshirting this season, finished fifth overall in the team standings at the 2020 Pac-12 Championships.
