Andrew Seliskar Bombs a 1:30.86 in 800 Free Relay Lead-Off; Moves to Third All-Time
Cal senior Andrew Seliskar has been on fire this weekend at the Georgia Invitational, posting fast swims left and right. Seliskar continued his strong showing in Athens with a 1:30.86 lead-off on Cal’s 800 free relay on Friday night. Seliskar’s time moves him up to third all-time in the 200 free behind only Townley Haas and Blake Pieroni, both guys who have been under 1:30.
Cal’s relay went on to win the race at 6:14.65, not far off of Texas’s 6:14.29 from Wednesday night at the Texas Invite.
Seliskar’s previous best was a 1:31.28 from the NCAA’s this year in March, as he moves from seventh all-time to third. He is also just the fourth man to break 1:31 all-time in the event, joining Haas, Pieroni and Dylan Carter.
Seliskar already put up impressive times this weekend at the Georgia Invite in the 500 (4:13.02), 200 IM (1:40.55) and 100 fly (45.59), as well as an 18.85 50 free relay split and a 51.32 breaststroke split on the 400 medley relay last night.
Seliskar seems to be really feeding off the momentum he gathered from this summer’s Nationals where he won his first ever national title in the 200 free, and clinched a spot on the Pan Pac team.
Seliskar was Swimming World’s High School Swimmer of the Year in 2015, and is finally living up to the hype that surrounded him after having such a successful high school career.
