TUSCALOOSA, Alabama, September 27. THE Alabama Swimming and Diving teams opened up the 2008-09 regular season with a trio of wins Saturday in the Alabama Aquatic Center. The Crimson Tide men downed Delta State 171-113, while the Alabama women beat DSU 162-110 and Vanderbilt 182-95.
Freshman Joe Ziegler got his UA career off to a fast start picking up wins in the 1000 freestyle and the 200 backstroke and a second place finish in the 100 backstroke. On the women's side of the slate, rookie Suzanne Schwee also got off to a strong start, taking top honors in the 200 butterfly and 200 IM and touching second in the 200 backstroke.
