Friday, December 8, Day 5
Well SwimmingWorldMagazine.com readers, the day is here. We have all feared it, but we must face the music, this will be my finally installment. Be strong.
Following a night of writing in the library I was on very little sleep today. After a short nap I went in for some dryland and swimming. My favorite part of dryland this morning was doing our speed jumping drills. We work on leg speed and did jumps in a little-little big pattern trying to get our feet off the ground as quickly as possibly. This helps us see why most swimmers don't play other sports. It proves to be quite amusing. We then got in and did some long and smooth swimming.
I then went home and took a quick nap, very refreshing and headed back to the pool to swim the afternoon practice a little early because I had an engagement this evening. The theme of the week in practice, if you hadn't notice, has been distance per stroke. Today's main set was:
500, 400, 300, 200, 100
400, 300, 200, 100
300, 200, 100
200, 100
100
This was all freestyle and everything except the 100s were working distance per stroke. The 100s were as fast as possible.
After that I headed to my "Food and Drink in European History" professor's house where we had a class dinner to wrap up the semester. It was a lively time with good food and good people.
Well I had a great week. It was tough and a bit stressful but I am glad I got to share it with all of you. Hope it was somewhat entertaining.
Go Devils!
Jay
