NC State Swimming Cruises to Wins Over UNC-Wilmington
The North Carolina State Wolfpack played host to UNC-Wilmington Friday. Many of NC State’s top swimmers competed in a limited slate of events, but the home team still won every event and both meets, 186-91 for the women and 162-107 for the men.
The NC State team of Meghan Donald, Eneli Jefimova, Tyler Driscoll and Olivia Nel captured first place in the 200 medley relay in 1:35.72. Later on, Nel took down the field in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.09 while Donald earned a win in a tight 200 backstroke (1:55.85). Jefimova sat out the 100 breaststroke but cruised to first place in the 200, touching in 2:10.90.
Katherine Helms topped the 200 free in 1:45.23, with Cassie Moses first in the 100 back (52.73) and Aubree Brouwer winning the 100 breast (1:00.80). Grace Monahan got first place by 5.40 seconds in the 200 fly with her time of 1:57.38. Moses picked up a second victory in the 100 free (48.27). Emma Hastings pulled away for first in the 500 free (4:42.88), and veteran Kennedy Noble, sitting out the butterfly events, won the 100 fly in 52.27.
In diving, Grace Hurley won 1-meter (281.10) and 3-meter (288.90). Lisa Nystrand was the winner of the 400 IM by 10 seconds (4:09.09), and the 200 free relay went to Lily King, Nel, Erika Pelaez and Moses in 1:27.68.
Aiden Hayes, Arsen Kozhakhmetov, Drew Salls and Jerry Fox started off the men’s meet with a winning time of 1:24.26 in the 200 medley relay. Hayes had an individual win in the 200 fly (1:45.03) while Salls won the 50 free (19.50). Max Carlsen was the winner of the 200 free in 1:34.51, although the top time belonged to exhibition swimmer Quintin McCarty at 1:33.23.
Stephen Conrad went 46.74 in the 100 back to take the win while Daniel Diehl made a rare appearance in breaststroke, going 53.57 in the 100. Bjornar Laskerud came in first in the 100 free (43.72), followed by Max Buff winning the 200 back (1:43.27) and Hudson Schuricht topping the 200 breast (1:57.31). The 500 free went to Matt Marsteiner (4:19.75) before Arsenio Bustos came through in the 100 fly (47.32).
Landon D’Ariano finished off individual racing with the top time in the 400 IM at 3:44.48. Kaii Winkler, Hayes, Diehl and McCarty cruised in the 200 free relay at 1:16.75.
UNC-Wilmington did pick up wins in men’s diving. Etan Ferguson won 1-meter (310.80) while Ethan Badrian topped the field on 3-meter (327.83).
