With a slew of senior meets and some fast competition, it was a big weekend for the Big 12 schools. Here’s the week in review:
Top Stories:
- It was a busy weekend for the West Virginia Mountaineers as they competed against conference rivals Iowa State and Big East team Villanova on Friday, then took on powerhouses Ohio State and Michigan, as well as Buffalo on Saturday. With a good mix of races, the Mountaineers will be ready for the big meet environment come championship season.
- Predictably, Texas is still unbeatable on the men’s side and very stiff competition on the women’s side. Both teams handily defeated the Arizona teams at Arizona over the past weekend, sweeping several events in the process. Other ranked teams have a hard time even keeping the dual meets close, which bodes well for the Longhorns coming into the final push of the season.
- TCU fell hard to cross-state rival North Texas. Even with several good swims from the Horned Frogs, they couldn’t come up with a win at the tail end of the training phase of their season, which could be an indicator of how hard they’ve been training or an ominous sign for things to come.
- Senior days. Kansas, West Virginia, and Iowa State have all had a day to celebrate their seniors’ last meet in their home pool. With dual meets behind them, the seniors can now focus on taper and preparation for the championship ahead.
