Sprinter Joelle Vereb Grows Virginia Tech’s Class of 2021

The Virginia Tech women’s Class of 2021 continues to grow. The Hokies added a verbal commitment from in-state talent Joelle Vereb. Vereb swims for the young club 757 Swim where she is a versatile sprinter.

Her best times are:

100 Fly 53.79
100 Breast 1:02.88
100 Free 50.40

Vereb explained, “I am very excited to commit to Virginia Tech. The team, coaching staff, and campus community were awesome! I can’t wait to be a part of this special group!”

She swims for Jamestown High School. At this year’s Virginia 4A State Championships, Vereb will return as the defending champion in the 100 fly (54.63) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.15).

Vereb will join a recruiting class that includes Tatum Hackler, Molly Sheffield, Heather Sigmon, Nicole Pape, and Emily Meilus. Hacker also has great sprinting stroke range while Sigmon and Meilus are primarily backstrokers. Pape is more breaststroke and IM focused and Sheffield will be a great match for Vereb in the 100 fly.

The 2016 fifth place Hokies will welcome points from Vereb at ACCs. At the 2016 meet, she would have been a B finalist in the 100 butterfly. Junior Maggie Grubber (52.40) was the Hokies only scorer in that event, making Vereb a strong relay contender when she moves to Blacksburg next fall.
