2020 MAC Women’s Swimming Championships Day 2: Akron Still Leads
At the start of night 2 of the MAC Women’s Swimming Championships, Akron holds a lead over the rest of the field after sweeping the two races of night 1. Tonight is the first night that individual events will be contested, including diving. The events for the evening are as follows: 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, 1-Meter Dive and the 200 Freestyle Relay.
MAC Women’s Swimming Championships: 500 Freestyle
The 500 Freestyle went to Alyssa Shugarman from Eastern Michigan tonight at a time of 4:44.51. She overtook the rest of the field by over a second. Coming behind Shugarman was Brittney Beetcher from Buffalo in 4:46.23. Third, and rounding out the field of swimmers under 4:50 in the A-final, was Izzy Jones of University of Toledo. It’s worth noting that Savanna Mouat of Eastern Michigan won the B-final while breaking the 4:50 barrier in 4:49.64, dropping over 6 seconds from prelims.



MAC Women’s Swimming Championships: 200 IM
The 200 IM went to Sarah Watson from Akron in 1:57.65. She kept her place from her prelims swim, where she was the fastest qualifier. Joining her on the podium was Camila Lins de Mello from Miami University, Ohio (1:58.31) and Daisy Platts from Eastern Michigan (1:58.83). Notably, the top three are all 19 year-olds.

MAC Women’s Swimming Championships: 50 Freestyle
In the 50 Freestyle, almost every swimmer was under 23 seconds. Buffalo went 1-2, in a big boost for the team race, with Toni Naccarella (22.48) and Jillian Lawton (22.64). In third from Akron was Morgan Waggoner (22.68).


MAC Women’s Swimming Championships: 1-Meter Dive
The first of the divings events began with the 1-meter. Talisa Lemke of Bowling Green took the win (327.42), followed by Tori Franz from Buffalo (296.58), and then Mia Schempf (278.07) of Eastern Michigan in third.

MAC Women’s Swimming Championships: 200 Freestyle Relay
In the last event of the night, the 200 Freestyle relay, Akron (1:29.39) took a narrow win over Buffalo (1:29.89). The foursome of Paulina Nogai, Morgan Waggoner, Sarah Watson and Sofia Heneli led from the start and refused to cede the advantage for the entirety of the race. In third was Miami in 1:32.43.


Team Standings
Just like night 1, Akron (295) and Buffalo (251.5) are the top two teams and are the only two to have broken 200 points. Meanwhile, Easter Michigan holds a distant third with 178 points.
