2018 European Championships Day 6 Prelims: Yuliya Efimova Takes Top Seed in 50 Breast
Day 6 of the European Championships kicks off with Wednesday’s preliminary session in Glasgow, Scotland.
Many of the world’s best swimmers look to battle for supremacy and clinch spots in semi-finals later in the day.

Women’s 200 Back
Daria Ustinova opened Wednesday’s session with a strong prelim swim in the 200 back. The Russian finished in 2:08.89, more than a second ahead of the rest of the field.
Hungary’s Katalin Burian took the second seed in 2:10.22, followed by Russia’s Anastasiia Avdeeva (2:201.31).
Italy’s Margherita Panzer was right on their heels at 2:10.32, followed by Germany’s Jenny Mensing (2:11.23).

Men’s 50 Free
The men’s 50 free produced a stunning result as there was a tie for the top seed in the event.
Britain’s Benjamin Proud and Greece’s Kristian Gkolomeev each finished the race in 21.68, enough to hold off the rest of the field by a few hundredths of a second.
Italy’s Andrea Vervain was close behind at 21.72, followed by Poland’s Pawel Juraszek (21.81), Russia’s Vladimir Morozov (21.85), Ukraine’s Andriy Govorov (21.95), Jesse Peter Puts of the Netherlands (22.03) and Italy’s Luca Dotto (22.15).

Women’s 50 Fly
Sarah Sjostrom continued her stellar meet by surging to the top seed in 50 fly. The Swedish superstar finished in 25.11, more than a half second ahead of the field.
Denmark’s Emilie Beckmann took the second seed at 25.72, followed closely by Belgium’s Kimberly Buys at 25.80 and Ranomi Kromowidjojo (25.92) of the Netherlands.
France’s Melanie Henique also was sub-26, taking the fifth seed in 25.94.

Men’s 100 Fly
Italy’s Piero Codia used an opening 24.05 split to take the top seed in the 100 fly at 51.59.
Britain’s James Guy was close behind at 51.75, just ahead of Poland’s Konrad Czerniak (51.84) and Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh (51.92), setting up what could be a pretty intense semi-final.
Hungary’s Kristof Milak took the fifth seed in 52.04.

Another day, another strong performance from Russia’s Yuliya Efimova. She took the top seed in the 50 breast, finishing in 30.20.
Italy’s Arianna Castiglione was a tenth behind at 30.30, followed by Britain’s Imogen Clark at 30.40.
Russia’s Natalia Ivaneeva took the fourth seed at 30.60, while Lithuania’s Ruta Meilutyte and Britain’s Sarah Vasey tied for the fifth seed at 30.73.

Mixed 4×100 Free Relay
Just four hundredths of a second separated the top two seeds in the mixed 400 free relay.
Russia’s Danila Izotov, Vladislav Grinev, Rozaliya Nasretdinova and Arina Openysheva took the top spot at 3:27.15.
The Netherlands team of Kyle Stolk, Stan Pijneburg, Kira Toussaint and Ranomi Kromowidjojo were next at 3:27.19.
France’s Jeremy Stravius, Maxime Grousset, Margaux Fabre and Beryl Gastaldello took the third seed at 3:27.40.
