Dressel Drops Fastest Ever Relay Split on Day Three Prelims of DI NCAA’s

Florida’s Caeleb Dressel continued to improve this morning by throwing down the fastest 50 free relay split in history with a 17.30. This helped Florida’s 4×50 medley relay earn the third spot heading into tonight while USC will take ownership of lane four in tonight’s A final.
Other notable swims came from Auburn’s top seed Hugo Gonzalez who fell to 30th place while Indiana’s Ian Finnerty set himself up for a potential title in the 100 breast tonight.

Cal’s Andrew Seliskar dipped under USC’s Ous Mellouli‘s pool record from 2005 in a time of 3:37.84 to easily put himself ahead of the rest of the field heading into tonight’s A final. Flanking Seliskar tonight will be Texas senior Jonathan Roberts (3:38.64) and Georgia senior Gunnar Bentz (3:38.90).
Rounding out the A final tonight will be South Carolina freshman Brandonn Almeida with his 3:39.52.
Leading the B final will be Stanford’s Curtis Ogren 3:39.76.
Notably, top-seed Auburn’s Hugo Gonzalez was nowhere to be found this morning as he swam a 3:46.19 for 30th place overall.

Florida senior Caeleb Dressel performed well as expected this morning by earning the lane four spot in a time of 44.37. Indiana’s Vini Lanza (44.66) and Texas Longhorn Joseph Schooling (44.97) followed behind in second and third, respectively, which will set us up for an interesting match-up tonight.
Rounding out the A final is Cal freshman Ryan Hoffer with his time of 45.29 from this morning.
Leading the B final tonight will be Arizona junior Chatham Dobbs with a time of 45.31.

Taking eighth was Cal freshman Bryce Mefford in a time was 1:32.84.
The B final will be lead by Louisville’s Bryce Mefford who posted a 1:33.16.
Notably, Florida’s Maxime Rooney was seeded to score, but fell to 21st with a 1:34.39 from his seed time of 1:32.97.

Indiana’s Ian Finnerty swam well ahead of the rest of his heat by posting a time about a second and a half ahead of anyone else in a 50.47. This lowered his own pool record from earlier in the year. California’s Connor Hoppe (51.78) and USC’s Carsten Vissering (51.87) are currently sitting second and third, heading into tonight.
Continuing the trend of freshman squeaking into A finals, Louisville freshman Evengii Somov posted a 52.28 to get eighth this morning.
Tonight’s B final will be lead by Louisville senior Carlos Claverie who swam a 52.29.

The B final will be lead by GCU’s Mark Nikolaev (45.30), who was seeded to be in the A final with his seed time of 44.71.

USC’s squad of Ralf Tribunstov (20.93), Carsten Vissering (23.38), Dylan Carter (19.97) and Santo Condorelli (18.48) all produced a time of 1:22.76 to take the top seed in the A final tonight. The second seed will be California who posted a 1:23.20 while Florida’s quartet, which featured an insane 17.30 freestyle split from Caeleb Dressel, put together a time of 1:23.24 to earn them third heading into tonight.
Rounding out the A final will be Louisville who swam a 1:23.79.
Notably, Arizona’s team, who had B final scoring potential, was disqualified.
The B final will be feature Stanford’s foursome in the middle lane with their time of 1:23.89.
