100 Fly
The A final of tonight’s 100 fly featured the Caeleb Dressel/Joseph Schooling showdown where Dressel emerged victorious in a time of 42.80. This marks Dressel as the fastest all time in the event, continuing his record-breaking weekend.
Dressel continues to marvel with his unmatched speed and unparalleled underwater dolphin kick abilities. Dressel was out first at the 50 in a 19.99, with NC State’s Ryan Held trailing in 20.55. By the finish, Dressel had come back in a 22.81 to win it while Held (44.88) would fade to fifth.
Dressel’s fellow Gator teammate Jan Switkowski got by Schooling for second place in a time of 44.49 while Indiana’s Vini Lanza touched third in 44.50. Former NCAA champion from two years ago, Schooling, faded to fourth in a time of 44.68.
Rounding out the A final in a 45.11 was Cal’s Matthew Josa.
NC State’s Coleman Stewart touched first in the B final with his swift 44.84.

200 Free
Tonight’s 200 free A final saw Texas junior Townley Haas reclaim his American record on his way to nabbing his third consecutive NCAA title in the event. Haas touched in 1:29.50, leading from the start with a quick first two 50’s of 20.64 and 22.48 to added up to a 43.12 for the first 100, which put Haas almost a full second ahead of the field at the halfway point.
Former American record holder, Indiana’s Blake Peroni, who swam a 1:30.23, charged to second while having a faster second 100 than Haas (Peroni was back in 46.20 while Haas was back in 46.38). In third was Auburn’s Zach Apple in a time of 1:31.18.
Rounding out the A heat was Cal freshman Bryce Medford who touched in 1:33.13.
Texas senior Jeff Newkirk earned some much needed points for the Longhorns by winning the B final in 1:33.15.

100 Breast
Indiana’s Ian Finnerty continued the barrier-breaking streak of this week’s championships by becoming the first man to dip under 50-seconds in the 100 breast in an insanely-quick time of 49.69, to win the A final.
Finnerty was out well ahead of the rest of the field at the halfway mark with a split of 23.26, which was nearly identical to the 23.27 he posted during the prelims of the 200 medley relay. Finnerty showed no signs of remorse as he charged home over the last 50 yards in 26.43, solidifying himself as the only man to come back in under 27-seconds.
In second was California’s Connor Hoppe in a 51.16 while USC’s Carsten Vissering touched third in 51.28.
Tennessee’s Peter Stevens swam a 52.11 to win the B final.

100 Back
The NCAA record was safe for the first time tonight, though for the first time in four years, someone not named Ryan Murphy won the 100 back at DI men’s NCAA’s.
With Cal’s backstroke legend gone, this year’s final was wide open and it was NC State’s Coleman Stewart who followed up his B final win in the 100 fly by nabbing his first NCAA title in the event with a time of 44.58, which marks the seventh fastest time in history.
Just .01 behind Stewart was Longhorn John Shebat who touched second in 44.59.
Claiming third in tonight’s A final was NC State’s Andreas Vazaios with his 44.81.
A freshman trio of Texas’ Austin Katz (44.99), USC’s Robert Glinta (45.10) and Louisville’s Nicolas Albiero (45.10) followed behind in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Rounding out the A final was USC’s Ralf Tribuntsov in a 45.34.
UGA’s Javier Acevedo took the B final in a time of 45.20.

200 Medley Relay
Tonight’s 200 medley relay A final saw USC out-touch Pac-12 rival Cal-Berkely for the win with a pool record of 1:21.82, largely due to Carsten Vissering‘s 50 breast split of 22.58, which is among the fastest splits in history.
California’s squad was composed of all American swimmers, which made them eligible to break the American record, a feat they accomplished with Daniel Carr (20.85), Connor Hoppe (23.01), Justin Lynch (19.77) and Ryan Hoffer (18.25) producing a time of 1:21.88, under their old record they set in during this morning’s prelims of 1:21.88.
Third was awarded to Florida’s squad which featured another 17.37 freestyle split from Caeleb Dressel.
Winning the B final was Alabama’s relay who touched in a time of 1:23.71.
Notably, so far at these NCAA championships, there have been four relay events contested and four different universities have won each event.

Steele Johnson pushed through his ankle injury, which kept him out of competition for a whole 12 weeks, by securing a win on the 3-meter board for Purdue with a score of 499.35.
Johnson, during the final moments, changed his dive list to increase his degree of difficulty, enabling him to earn enough points for the win ahead of Tennessee’s Colin Zeng who scored 495.15 for second. Taking third was last night’s 1-meter champion, Indiana’s Michael Hixon, who scored 481.15.
Rounding out the A final with 381.60 points was Indiana freshman Andrew Capobian.
Winning the B final was Penn State’s Hector Garcia with 406.85 points.
