This week’s ZUMO Performance of the Week goes to Madisyn Cox, who threw down an impressive performance in the 200 IM at this week’s 2019 Longhorn Invite.

Cox swam a 2:10.29 at the Longhorn Invite, just 6-tenths off of her lifetime best of 2:09.69 from 2017 and the fastest time by an American in the event so far this year. Melanie Margalis was a 2:10.43 just last week at the Knoxville Grand Prix.

Cox’s swim is particularly impressive when looking at the events of the last six months. The Texas pro had her year turned upside down back in July, when she was handed a two-year doping suspension by FINA for a positive test for Trimetazidine just a week ahead of the 2018 U.S. Nationals. While Cox’s suspension was eventually reduced to six months, her positive test prevented her from earning a roster spot for an international team for the next two calendar years due to the United States selection process.

But despite the upheaval caused by the test, Cox’s performance shows she may be more capable (and motivated) than ever to keep her name in the conversation heading into the 2020 Olympic Games

Congratulations Madisyn Cox  on earning Swimming World’s Performance of the Week!
