Zoe Dixon Swims 2:12 200 IM to Conclude NCSA Summer Championships
The fifth day of the NCSA Summer Championships in Huntsville, Ala., was highlighted by an amazing 200 IM from NOVA of Virginia’s Zoe Dixon. Dixon swam a 2:12.62 to win the event by 4.5 seconds over TNT’s Leticia Sim, and she was also more than two seconds quicker than she swam on her way to 19th place at Olympic Trials. This time would have been good enough for 10th at that meet. Dixon had an awesome meet even before her 200 IM win, with victories in the 400 IM, 200 fly and 200 breast and a runner-up finish in the 200 back.
Also winning a fourth event was Zionsville’s Will Modglin, who was first in the men’s 50 backstroke (by a large margin) in 25.78. Modglin already had won the 200 back, 100 back and 100 fly. Meanwhile, Tsunami’s Alec Enyeart won the 1500 free in 15:27.31, beating his entry time by almost 25 seconds. Enyeart had already won the 400 free and 800 free earlier in the meet.
TNT’s Levenia Sim, younger sister of Leticia, won the women’s 50 backstroke in 28.79, adding to an earlier 100 back triumph. Oly Swiming’s Lucy Malys won the 800 free in 8:50.85, barely holding off a late charge from St. Andrews’ Anna Auld. Anther Oly swimmer, Michael Cooper, crushed a 2:05.00 in the men’s 200 IM to win by more than a second and a half.
Yet another swimmer from Oly won the women’s 50 freestyle as Josie Connelly touched in 25.87, while Dads Swim Club’s Cade Duncan held off Kledi Kadiu, one of the most successful swimmers in Huntsville with four victories already under his belt. Duncan swam a time of 23.64, compared to Kadiu’s 23.75.
The Sim sisters reunited on the women’s 400 medley relay, as Levenia, Letitia, Cequiya York and Megan Corcoron won the event in 4:14.92. The boys’ 400 medley went to a group of swimmers from the CSP Tidewaters, including Jonathan Naber, Kadiu, Julio Suarez and Steven Busch, and they combined to put up a time of 3:49.80
