Ziegler Looks Strong at Retriever Aquatic Club Classic

BALTIMORE, Maryland, January 18. THE premier distance freestyler in the world, Kate Ziegler had a superb showing last weekend at the Retriever Aquatic Club Classic. A standout with The Fish, where she's coached by Ray Benecki, Ziegler clocked 15:58.52 for victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle.

The reigning world champion in the 800 and 1,500 freestyles, Ziegler also won the 100 and 200 freestyles in Baltimore, as she registered times of 51.67 and 1:49.43, respectively. Ziegler was also second in the 100 fly (58.11) and the 200 individual medley (2:06.94). Anne Marie Botek, a Georgia recruit, won the 100 fly in 57.18.

Along with Katie Hoff and Jessica Hardy, Ziegler is considered the future of American swimming on the female side. That much was evident last summer when she bested the competition at the World Championships in Montreal with winning times of 8:25.31 (800) and 16:00.41 (1,500).
