NEW COMMIT: George Washington University has earned their first verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from Leesport, Penn. backstroker/freestyler Marlee Rickert.

Rickert, who owns a pair of U.S. Open standards, does her club swimming with Reading YMCA and most recently placed sixth in the 50m back at YMCA LCM Nationals. She won the 200 free and 200 back at the Pennsylvania YMCA State meet in March before going on to finish sixth in the 100 back and ninth in the 50 free at YMCA SCY Nationals in April.

Also competing for Schuylkill Valley High School, Rickert is a six-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. She earned bronze in both the 100 back and 50 free as a junior after finishing second and third, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to George Washington University. l want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for their unconditional love and support. I can’t wait to be a part of the GW family! Go Colonials!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.36
  • 100 back – 54.68
  • 200 back – 2:02.01
  • 50 free – 23.27
  • 100 free – 51.15
  • 200 free – 1:51.54

Rickert will be a huge asset both individually and on relays when she suits up for the Colonials as a member of the class of 2024 as her best times already rank at the top of their lineup. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back and 200 back as well as the B-final of the 200 free at the 2019 A-10 Conference Championships where George Washington finished second overall in the team standings.
