NEW COMMIT: The Ohio State University has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Saint Marys, Ohio native Justin Fleagle. The youngest of 10 children, Justin is the brother of former Buckeye All-American Josh Fleagle, a 2017 graduate who was a multi-time Big Ten champion.

Fleagle, who does his club swimming with Auglaize Mercer YMCA Waves, owns a trio of U.S. Open standards and recently recorded four best times at YMCA SCY Nationals where he won the 100 back and earned bronze in the 50 free. He raced three events at Winter Nationals before going on to place 22nd in the 50 free at Juniors East in December.

Last summer, the talented sprinter won the 50m back and was the 100m back runner-up at YMCA LCM Nationals. Currently entering his senior year at Celina High School, Fleagle took second in the 100 back and fourth in the 50 free as a freshman at the Ohio State Championships.

He told Swimming World:

“I have been a fan of and admired The Ohio State University swimming program since I was an 8 & under and am happy to announce my commitment to continue my swimming career there! My parents and I have always acquired great advice and support from Coach Wadley and now Coach Dorenkott. I have enjoyed meeting the team members as well as the great assistant coaches and observing the close family team environment! I am excited to find success in the coming steps of my college journey. GO BUCKS!!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 19.99
  • 100 free – 45.13
  • 50 back – 22.85
  • 100 back – 47.70
  • 50 fly – 22.37
  • 100 fly – 48.17

Fleagle will add valuable sprint depth to Ohio State’s lineup both individually and on relays when he suits up for the Buckeyes as a member of the class of 2024. He would’ve placed in the C-final of the 100 back and is currently just on the edge of scoring range in numerous other events at the Big Ten Championships.
