NEW COMMIT: Greensboro, N.C. native McKenzie Campbell has announced her verbal commitment to Georgia Tech beginning in the fall of 2019.

She does her club swimming with Greensboro Community YMCA (GCY Makos) where she holds multiple team records and is a three-time Junior National qualifier. She most recently competed at YMCA LCM Championships over the summer and registered a fourth-place finish in the 200m fly after winning the event at NC LCM Seniors. She placed ninth in the same event at YMCA SCY Nationals in April and was the 200 IM runner-up at NC SCY Seniors.

A school record-holder at Page High School, Campbell has qualified for finals five times at the NCHSAA 4A State Championships during her career thus far. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished fourth in the 100 fly during both her sophomore and junior seasons.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to pursue my swimming and academic career at Georgia Tech. After visiting the school, I knew it would be a perfect fit for me because of the impressive team spirit, excellent coaching staff, and outstanding academic opportunities. I’d like to thank my family, friends, and coaches that have provided me with a tremendous amount of support along the way. I can’t wait to be a member of the swarm. GO JACKETS!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 56.00
  • 200 fly – 2:00.75
  • 100 breast – 1:04.10
  • 200 IM – 2:04.91
  • 400 IM – 4:23.05

Campbell will make a huge splash for the Yellow Jackets when she arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season since her best 200 fly time would’ve scored in the C-final at the 2018 ACC Championships. Even with another year of club swimming still to go, her fastest 200 fly and 400 IM would already place on Georgia Tech’s All-Time Top 10 list.
