Yellow Jackets Add Verbals from Antonio Romero, Leandro Odorici to Growing Class of 2025

NEW COMMITS: Plano, Texas native Antonio Romero and Leandro Odorici of Brazil have both announced their verbal commitments to Georgia Tech for the fall of 2021.

Both swimmers will join Scott HaneyMert KilavuzBerke Saka, Matt Steele, and Sean Simms in Atlanta as members of the Yellow Jackets’ class of 2025.

LEANDRO ODORICI

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am very happy to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Georgia Tech University.  The team, the coaches and the campus are unique.  I am very lucky to have the support of my family, friends and coaches who have been extremely important during my journey.  I’m excited to be part of this wonderful team. Go Jackets!”

A talented sprinter, Odorici won the Brazilian Age Group titles in the 50m/100m free combo back in 2018. He most recently represented Brazil at the 2020 UANA Cup in Lima, Peru, where he won gold in the 50m breast, took silver in the 50m/100m free, and grabbed bronze in the 100m breast. His 4x50m medley relay also collected the gold medal.

In LCM, his best times include:

  • 50m free – 23.22
  • 100m free – 51.31
  • 100m breast – 1:04.74

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 50 free – 20.23
  • 100 free – 44.65
  • 100 breast – 56.48

Odorici will add valuable sprint freestyle and breaststroke depth to the Yellow Jackets’ lineup next fall. Georgia Tech also produced rising senior and two-time ACC Champion Caio Pumputis, who also comes from Brazil.

ANTONIO ROMERO

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at Georgia Tech! I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and for all my friends, family, coaches, and teachers that supported me along the way! Go Jackets!!!”

Romero swims year-round with Lakeside Aquatic Club and owns five Junior National cuts. He most recently achieved five best times at College Station Sectionals after finaling in the 400 IM at Juniors West in December. Last summer, he achieved 100% lifetime bests at Austin Sectionals before going on to place fourth in the mile at Des Moines Futures.

His best times include:

  • 100 free – 46.49
  • 200 free – 1:39.27
  • 500 free – 4:30.25
  • 1650 free – 15:40.38
  • 200 IM – 1:50.75
  • 400 IM – 3:54.11

Also competing for Plano Senior High School, Romero has competed at the UIL Texas 6A State Championships the past two seasons. He placed sixth in the 200 free and 12th in the 500 free during his junior year.
