NEW COMMIT: U.S. Open qualifier Sydney Kang of Newmarket, N.H. has announced her verbal commitment* to Yale University with the intention to suit up for the Bulldogs in the fall of 2022.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Yale University! I am so grateful for my coaches, family, and friends for supporting me!! Go bulldogs!!??”

A talented butterflyer and IMer, Kang does her club swimming with SOLO Aquatics and finished third in the 200m fly at the U.S. Open in Greensboro. Last December, she posted seven top-10 finishes at New England Seniors after racing four events at the Toyota U.S. Open.

In Summer 2019, she won the 50m free and was the runner-up in 100m free, 100m fly, and 200m IM at New England LCM Seniors before going on to compete at Junior Nationals.

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 25.24
  • 100 fly – 54.99
  • 200 fly – 2:01.37
  • 200 IM – 2:03.30
  • 400 IM – 4:21.98
  • 50 free – 23.52
  • 100 free – 51.33
  • 200 free – 1:51.48

Currently a junior at Phillips Exeter Academy, Kang is already a four-time individual New England Prep School DI Championship finalist. She secured gold in the 100 fly and silver in the 50 free as a sophomore while taking second in both the 50 free and 200 IM during her freshman season.

She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts in the pool and in the classroom.

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Bulldogs, Kang will make a big impact in fly and IM events. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 IM and 400 IM at the 2020 Ivy League Championships where Yale finished third overall in the team standings.
