NEW COMMIT: Futures qualifier Sydney Metzler of Arvada, Colo. has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Wyoming and will arrive on campus in the fall of 2021.

She will join in-state native Katie McPherson as a member of the Pokes’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond ecstatic and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wyoming!! I can’t wait to be part of such a wonderful family!! Blessed, grateful, and happy barely scratch the surface of how I am feeling. I want to thank the coaches at the University of Wyoming for providing me with such an amazing opportunity. I also want to thank my family, teammates, and coaches who have helped me grow as a person in and out of the water. I can not wait to be a cowgirl!! Go Pokes!!”

An extremely versatile swimmer, Metzler does her club swimming with Elevation Athletics and recorded four top-6 finishes at the CSI Pioneer Open in December. Last summer, she finished 16th in the 200m back at Mount Hood Sectionals and finaled in two events at Phoenix Sectionals in March 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 57.14
  • 200 IM – 2:07.74
  • 400 IM – 4:30.07
  • 100 back – 56.31
  • 200 back – 2:02.47

Also competing for Ralston Valley High School, Metzler is a six-time Colorado 5A State Championship finalist. She placed ninth in the 100 back and 10th in the 100 fly as a junior while taking 15th and 16th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

When she arrives in Laramie at the start of the 2021-22 season, Metzler will add valuable backstroke and IM depth. She would’ve scored in the C-final of both backstroke events as well as the 400 IM at the 2020 Mountain West Championships where Wyoming finished third overall in the team standings.
