Wyoming Divers Close Out Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships
LARAMIE, Wyoming, April 27 EMILY Huth and Stephanie Ortiz finished their diving yesterday at the 2009 Speedo USA Diving Spring National Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Huth and Ortiz competed in the synchronized three-meter event, while Ortiz made the semifinal round on three-meter.
At the synchronized event, Huth and Ortiz dove well, but did not reach the finals. They finished in tenth with a score of 186.60. In the three-meter semifinals Ortiz finished with a score of 213.95 and placed in 20th.
"For the synchronized event it is hard for us to train since we don't have two three-meter boards to practice on," said UW diving coach Ben Herdt. "Emily and Steph dove well, but had one hick-up on one dive and it dropped them. Steph didn't dive to her capability on three-meter, but gained a lot of valuable experience.
"Overall it was great experience for both Emily and Stephanie against quality divers. Diving on the national scene will prepare them for next season and make them better divers," said Herdt.
