NEW COMMIT: Liberty, Missouri’s Cameron Murphy has declared his verbal intention to swim for the University Wyoming as a member of the class of 2023.

Murphy swims year-round with the Tsunami Swim Team of KC and owns the Winter Juniors cut in the 200 fly and 400m free. He achieved 100% best times at NCSAs this summer where his highest finish was a 20th-place showing in the 200m fly. He was a six-time finalist at Jenks Sectionals in July and had a trio of second-swims at Columbia Sectionals in March.

Also swimming for Liberty Senior High School, Murphy is a seven-time Missouri State Championship finalist. Most recently, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American was the 500 free runner-up and added a bronze in the 200 free to cap off his senior season. He placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in those events as a junior and finished fourth in both races during his sophomore campaign.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m so excited and honored to announce my commitment to The University of Wyoming to continue my athletic and academic career! It was clear after my visit that UW truly cares about its athletes, and the team atmosphere was very welcoming and amazing. Thank you to my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for helping me get to this point! Once again I’m so excited to have this opportunity! Go Pokes!”

His best times include:

  • 200 fly – 1:51.50
  • 200 free – 1:42.05
  • 500 free – 4:35.27
  • 1000 free – 9:32.58
  • 400 IM – 4:04.80

When he suits up for the Cowboys in the fall of 2019, he will join a mid-distance group led by Ryan Netzel and Jacob Harlan as well as a fly group that includes Brayden Love. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 fly, 500 free and 400 IM at the 2018 WACC Championships. Under head coach David Denniston, Wyoming won their first conference crown in 59 years last season.
