NEW COMMIT: The Cowboys have rounded up a verbal commitment from Suquamish, Wash. native Aron Markow who will arrive at the University of Wyoming next fall.

Markow does his club swimming with Poulsbo Piranha Swim Team and has reached the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 breast. He raced at Santa Clara Futures over the summer and earned a pair of best times at the Pacific Northwest Senior LCM Championships. He notched a 50 free personal best at Juniors West last winter and swam four events at Federal Way Speedo Sectionals in March.

Representing Kingston High School at the Washington 2A State Championships as a junior, Markow was the 100 breast runner-up and placed sixth in the 50 free. He finished ninth in the 100 breast at the 3A State meet during his sophomore season for Bainbridge.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to have announced my verbal commitment to the University of Wyoming. The academics are a great fit for my career goal of becoming a veterinarian. I appreciate the belief in me, and the commitment to me, that Coach Dave and the assistant coaches have made to helping me reach the highest standards in swimming. The team is very welcoming, the attitudes are positive, and the commitment to excellence is inspiring. I look forward to contributing to the team, and to the personal challenges ahead of me. Go Pokes!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 57.15
  • 200 breast – 2:12.93
  • 200 IM – 1:57.88
  • 50 free – 22.09
  • 100 free – 48.45

When Markow arrives on campus next fall, he’ll join a sprint group that includes PJ Musser and Dylan Nelson and a breaststroke training squad led by Mitch Hovis. Under head coach David Denniston, the Cowboys won their first conference crown in 59 years last season.
