NEW COMMIT: Dublin, Ohio native Ellie Andrews has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Texas and will arrive in Austin at the start of the 2021-22 season along with Olivia McMurray.

Andrews is coming off a breakout summer where she finished seventh in both the 100m and 200m breast at Phillips 66 Nationals to secure her spot on the 2019-20 USA Swimming National Junior Team. She also placed seventh in the 50m breast and 100m breast at the 7th FINA World Junior Championships in Budapest.

She swims year-round with Dublin Community Swim Team under head coach Steven VonSchriltz and owns the Olympic Trials standards in both breaststroke events. She won a pair of gold medals at the MAKO Holiday Invite and earned bronze in the 100m breast at Junior Nationals in 2018.

A current junior at Coffman High School, Andrews is already a four-time Ohio State Championship finalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 200 IM and was the 100 breast runner-up during her sophomore season while placing ninth and second, respectively, in those events during as a freshman.

In SCY, her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 29.51
  • 100 breast – 1:01.09
  • 200 breast – 2:16.66
  • 200 IM – 1:59.73

In LCM, her best times include:

  • 50m breast – 31.31
  • 100m breast – 1:08.12 (Olympic Trials cut)
  • 200m breast – 2:28.48 (Olympic Trials cut)
  • 200m IM – 2:19.67
  • 400m IM – 4:58.01

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Longhorns, Andrews will make an immediate impact both individually and on medley relays and she’ll surely see some huge time drops this short course season following her stellar summer. Her 100 breast and 200 IM times are already fast enough for a 2019-20 NCAA ‘B’ standard and she would’ve scored in multiple A-finals at the Big 12 Championships.
