Woodward Shines at Speedo Central Sectionals

COLUMBIA, Mo., July 24. SAMANTHA Woodward shined at last week’s Speedo Champions Series Central Sectionals as the 15-year old claimed four gold medals, posted a pair of Olympic trial cuts, set three meet records and posted a pair of other individual finals performances. On the men’s side of the ticket, 19-year old David Zenk claimed a trio of first-place finishes at the Missouri Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo.

Woodward opened her torrid meet with a meet-record and Olympic trial cut time of 57.00 to win the 100-meter freestyle, before capturing the 100-meter butterfly crown in similar fashion with a 1:00.84. On Friday, she then ripped off another winning performance with a 2:19.26 in the 200-meter butterfly, before garnering the 50-meter freestyle title in a meet-record time of 26.44.

For the men, Zenk picked up his first gold of the meet with a 2:08.19 in the 200-meter backstroke, before pocketing another title with a 4:36.18 in the 400-meter IM. Zenk then closed out the meet with a first-place 2:09.23 to win the 200-meter IM. He also earned gold as a member of the Tideriders’ 400-meter freestyle relay effort that touched in 3:31.60.
