Wolverines Get In-State Verbal From Michigan DIII Record-Holder Cam Peel

NEW COMMIT: Michigan has received a verbal commitment from in-state sprinter Cam Peel, who will make the move from Spring Lake to Ann Arbor next fall.

Peel swims year-round with Michigan Lakeshore Aquatics and owns two Junior Nationals cuts and has met the Senior Nationals standard in the 50 free. He recorded a pair of lifetime bests at Juniors this summer after swimming 100% personal bests at Columbus TYR Pro Swim Series. He raced a trio of events at Juniors East last winter and placed second in both the 50 free and 200 free at Akron Speedo Sectionals.

Peel has seen great success representing Spring Lake High School: he owns four school records, eight All-State awards and two All-Conference honors. At the Michigan DIII State Championships as a junior, Peel won the 100 free in 44.97 to break the DIII record. He also finished third in the 50 free.

He told Swimming World:

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.56
  • 100 free – 44.84
  • 200 free – 1:39.30

Peel will add valuable sprint depth for Michigan when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2023 and will join a training group led by Gustavo Borges and James JonesUnder head coach Mike Bottom, the Wolverines finished second at the 2018 Big Ten Championships.
