NEW COMMIT: NC State University has added an in-state verbal commitment from freestyle specialist Emma Hastings of Greenville, N.C. for the fall of 2022.

She will join Katherine Helms of Fairfax Station, Va. as a member of the Wolfpack’s Class of 2026.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at N.C State University. Thank you to my family, friends and coaches who have helped make this dream come true! Go Pack! ??❤

Hastings, who does her club swimming with East Carolina Aquatics for head coach Casey Charles, posted five top-5 finishes at Cary Sectionals in March after racing the 200/500 free at Juniors East in December. In summer 2019, she earned a silver and two bronze at NC LCM Seniors before going on to place 15th in the 400m free at Greensboro Futures.

At the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, Hastings ranked No. 3 in the country for 15-year-old girls in the 1000 free and No. 15 in the mile.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:50.59
  • 500 free – 4:51.45
  • 1000 free – 9:55.21
  • 1650 free – 16:44.77

Currently a junior at Junius H. Rose High School, Hastings is a three-time North Carolina 3A State Championship finalist. She won the 500 free and was the runner-up in the 200 free as a sophomore while taking 14th in the 200 IM during her freshman season.

At the 2020 ACC Championships, the Wolfpack finished second overall in the team standings behind Virginia.
