Wisconsin Women’s Division 2 State High School Championships

MADISON, Wisconsin, November 26. BECKIE Thompson of New Berlin West set two state records and led her 200 freestyle relay to a gold-medal performance at the Wisconsin Women's Division 2 High School State Championships.
Thompson reset her 2006 standard in the 50 freestyle when she touched the wall in 23.26. She later erased an 11-year record in the 100 freestyle, swimming a 50.61 time. Jamie Belfor of Shorewood, a former University of Wisconsin swimmer, set the former mark of 51.25 in 1996.
DeForest's Kelly Winckler posted individual wins in both the 200 freestyle (1:53.58) and the 500 freestyle (5:00.86) events.
Morgan Hearn of Madison Edgewood put up the top diving score (389.60). Lauren Citro of Cudahy edged out Carly Jerry from River Falls for second place, scoring a 375.00. Jerry settled for third with a 374.55 score.
DeForest successfully defended its 2006 state title with a 196 team score. Whitefish Bay tallied 165 points and placed second while Monona Grove picked up the third-place spot with 157 points.
