Wisconsin Men’s Division 2 High School State Championships

MADISON, Wisconsin, March 1. TWO swimmers departed from the Wisconsin Men's Division II Championships with individual event sweeps.
Ian Bakk of McFarland snared two gold medals, cranking out a 1:56.00 performance in the 200 IM and a 57.77 time in the 100 breaststroke. Bakk's 100 breaststroke time fell just more than a second short of the state record (56.62), which his former teammate, Derrick O'Donnell, set in 2006.
Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door's Kyle Trelka also was a double winner, taking class titles in the 100 freestyle (47.18) and the 100 backstroke (53.16).
McFarland reached the top of the podium in two relays. The 200 medley relay grouping of Brian Heiser, Bakk, Brandon O'Donnell and Peter Grenzow teamed up for a first-place effort, recording a time of 1:38.47. Heiser, Ben Psyk, Graham Thoresen and Brandon O'Donnell edged out Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door in the final leg of the 400 freestyle relay, winning in a time of 3:18.25.
Will Mathee of Cedarburg took the diving title with a score of 465.75. Mitchell Spaeth from Plymouth corralled a second-place finish with a 422.15 score while Chris VanDerElzen of Pulaski placed third (390.20).
