Wisconsin Girls High School State Championships

MADISON, Wisconsin, November 18. SIX teams highlighted the Wisconsin Girl's High School State Championships. Arrowhead (256), Madison East (240), and Madison Memorial (206) were the Division I championships. For Division II, Deforest placed first (236.5), followed by Grafton (180) and Catholic Memorial (156).

Division I Results
Junior Kylie Rosenstock of Madison West received first-place honors in the diving competition (471.60).

Badger/Big Foot/Williams Bay won the 200 medley relay with a 1:45.64, .14 seconds ahead of their opponent. Ellie Lorenzi, Emily Russart, Lindsey Mikrut, and Maddie Clark are accredited for the win. Russart also had an individual win the 100 breaststroke (1:03.07).

Senior Ruby Martin (Madison East) placed first in the sprinting events. She swam the 100 freestyle in 50.09. Her 50 freestyle time (23.10) was .10 seconds off the state record.

Martin's Aja Van Hout had dual individual wins in the 200 IM (201.69) and 500 freestyle (4:48.60). Although she missed the 200 IM state record by nearly .30 seconds, she surpassed the 500 freestyle state record (2006) by 5.43 seconds.

Although Badger/Big Foot/Williams Bay won the opening relay, Madison East had first-place finishes in the remaining two relays, creating state records in each. Martin and Van Hout joined Ivy Martin and Becca Soderholm in the 200 freestyle relay, beating Arrowhead's 2005 record by 1.53 seconds (1:33.63).

Madison Memorial's Jackie Powell had first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:49.21) and 100 backstroke (56.10). She was less than a second off the state record in each event.

The 200 freestyle relay of Madison East united again to win the 400 freestyle relay. The group finished with a record time of 3:24.80.

Division II Results
It was a 1.35 point difference between the top two finishers in the diving competition. Laura Van de Boom of Port Washington nearly beat Kristin Capcik of Milwaukee Luther by a score of 384.45 to 383.10.

Elle Meinholz, Anna Meinholz, Ashley Majewski, and Lauren Schoendorf combined to win the 200 medley relay (1:48.58).

Brookfield Academy's Kelsey Hojan-Clark had dual individual wins in the 200 (1:50.27) and 500 (4:54.18) freestyles. She was less than a second off the state record in each event.

Siri Smits (Berlin/GreenLake) and Kate Criter (Plymouth) set records in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke. Smits finished in 55.83 and Criter finished in 1:03.31, respectively. The top five finishers in the 100 breaststroke beat the 1996 state record (1:05.54) by Meghan Purvis (Shorewood).

Monona Grove took first in the 200 freestyle relay. Kelsey Millin, Tess Becker, Elizabeth Emmerich, and Hayley Martin set a record with a time of 1:38.95. The previous record (1:39.08) was set by Verona Area in 1998.
Senior Abby Diehl (Sauk Prairie) touched out Martin in the 100 freestyle by .05 seconds. However, Martin won the 50 freestyle for a time of 24.19.

Diehl combined with Alison Meng, Megan Cahill, and Kelsey Kohlbeck to close the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle (3:34.15).
