NEW COMMIT: Madison, Wis. native and high school junior Alex Anagnostopoulos has announced her in-state verbal commitment to Wisconsin and will join the Badgers in the fall of 2020.

Anagnostopoulos is a local product, doing her club swimming with Badger Aquatics Club where she has met the U.S. Open standard in the 200m breast. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American most recently competed at the Wisconsin Western Great Lakes Open where she posted a pair of runner-up finishes. She capped off a successful summer long course season with a second-place showing in the 100m breast at the Wisconsin LCM Championships and finaled in the 200m breast at both NCSAs and Iowa City Sectionals. Also competing for Middleton High School, Anagnostopoulos finished fifth in the 100 breast during both her freshman and sophomore seasons at the Wisconsin State Championships.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond honored to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin—Madison. I chose Wisconsin because of the perfect mix of great academics and great swimming. The team is so welcoming and the coaches are amazing. I can’t wait to be a badger!! A huge thank you to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates who helped me along the way. ON WISCONSIN!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 29.97
  • 100 breast – 1:04.35
  • 200 breast – 2:18.19
  • 200 IM – 2:08.34

Anagnostopoulos will add valuable breaststroke depth to Wisconsin’s roster when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. Although she currently sits outside of scoring range at the Big Ten Championships, she has continuously dropped time each season with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Badgers.
