Wisconsin DII State 100 Back Champion Nolan Francis Commits to Grand Canyon

NEW COMMIT: Grand Canyon University has earned a new commitment for the upcoming 2019-20 season and beyond from Rhinelander, Wisc. native Nolan Francis.

Francis, who swims year-round with Mid-Wisconsin Wave Makers, owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 back and most recently had five top-15 finishes at the Wisconsin State SCY Championships in March. He recorded a pair of best times at Juniors West in December and placed fifth in both the 100m back and 200m back at the Wisconsin LCM State Championships last summer.

Also competing for Rhinelander High School, Francis is a five-time Wisconsin DII State Championship finalist. He won the 100 back and was the 100 fly runner-up as a senior after placing sixth in both the 100 fly and 200 IM during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’ve decided to commit to Grand Canyon University because of their unique training philosophy, experienced coaches, and skyrocketing program. I’m extremely proud, and excited to call GCU my home for the next four years! ‘LOPES UP!!!”

His best times include:

50 back – 23.41
100 back – 49.91
200 back – 1:51.51
100 fly – 50.88
200 IM – 1:54.64

When he suits up for the Lopes as a member of the class of 2023, Francis will add his talents to a backstroke group that’ll be led by Kainan Coerin De Jesus and Cameron Carney. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 back at the 2019 Western Athletic Conference Championships where Grand Canyon won the team title.
