NEW COMMIT: Broadlands, Va. native Mackenzie McConagha has given the University of Wisconsin their second verbal commitment as part of the class of 2025. She will also join her current club teammate Paige McKenna in the fall of 2021.

McConagha does her club swimming with Nation’s Capital Swim Club and has already achieved the Olympic Trials cut in the 200m fly. She placed 7th in the 100m fly and 12th in the 200m fly this past summer at Junior Nationals after recording five top-8 finishes at Potomac Valley LCM Seniors. Last winter, she finaled in the 400m IM at Winter Nationals before going on to take eighth in the 500 free at Potomac Valley SCY Seniors. She was also a six-time finalist at NCSAs in March.

A current junior at Briar Woods High School, McConagha is a four-time Virginia 5A State Championship gold medalist. The NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 100 back and the 100 fly during both her freshman and sophomore seasons. She also set a pair of Class 5 records during her sophomore year in both individual events as well as the 4×50 medley and 4×50 free relays.

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.67
  • 100 back – 53.63
  • 200 back – 1:56.65
  • 50 fly – 24.92
  • 100 fly – 53.50
  • 200 fly – 1:58.86
  • 200 IM – 2:02.44
  • 400 IM – 4:21.44

Even with just under two years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Badgers, McConagha will make an immediate impact in their fly and back training groups. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 back, and 200 back at the 2019 Big Ten Championships where Wisconsin finished fifth overall in the team standings. Her best times in both fly events and both back events are already fast enough for the 2019-20 NCAA “B” standards as well.
