NEW COMMIT: Callahan “Cal” Dunn of LaGrange, Ill. has announced her verbal intention to continue her swim and academic career at the University of Wisconsin – Madison beginning in the fall of 2020.

Dunn, who does her club swimming with Lyons Aquatics, owns eight Winter Juniors (or faster) time standards. She recorded three lifetime bests at Juniors West in December where her highest finish was a fifth-place showing in the 200 IM. She capped off her summer long course season with a runner-up finish in the 200m IM at Illinois LCM Seniors and registered five second-swims at NCSAs last March.

Also competing for Lyons Township North High School, Dunn is a five-time Illinois State Championship finalist. She placed third in the 200 IM and ninth in the 500 free most recently as a junior after taking fifth and second, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. Dunn has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m super excited to announce my commitment to study and swim at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  I could immediately tell Wisconsin was a great fit for me academically and athletically. Once I visited I fell in love with the campus and the team made me feel at home. The enthusiam of the coaches and team drew me in. I can’t wait to become a badger and join such a great program!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.27
  • 500 free – 4:53.09
  • 100 breast – 1:04.01
  • 200 breast – 2:15.57
  • 100 fly – 55.74
  • 200 fly – 2:02.52
  • 200 IM – 1:59.50
  • 400 IM – 4:19.87

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go before suiting up for the Badgers, Dunn will make a big impact in the IM events. She would’ve placed in the C-final of both the 200/400 IM at the 2018 Big Ten Championships, where Wisconsin only had four scorers between both distances.
