NEW COMMIT: Cleveland State University has scored an in-state verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from breaststroker Blake Fry of Canal Winchester, Ohio.

Fry swims year-round with Lancaster YMCA Swim Team and most recently placed ninth in the 200m IM, 10th in the 100m breast, and 14th in the 200m breast at YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer. Last April, he raced to ninth in the 100 breast and 17th in the 200 breast at YMCA SCY Nationals.

Also competing for Canal Winchester, Fry has competed at the Ohio State Championships each of his three high school seasons thus far. He finished 10th in the 100 breast as a junior after placing 15th in the 500 free during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim D1 at Cleveland State University! Thankful for my coaches, family, and friends that have all helped me get to where I am today. I can’t wait to be a part of such a great team, go vikings!!”

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 26.79
  • 100 breast – 57.04
  • 200 breast – 2:05.29
  • 200 IM – 1:58.47

Fry will add valuable breaststroke depth to the Vikings’ lineup when he arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. He would’ve scored in the B-final of both breaststroke events at the 2019 Horizon League Championships where Cleveland State finished second overall in the team standings.

CSU was a great choice for my swimmer, Mac Lewis. Take advantage of all that the school has to offer—swimming and more! Congrats, Blake!
